A season behind closed doors is "not an option" according to Ipswich Witches' promoter due to the financial implications.

While the team are looking forward to returning to the track, the uncertainty over spectators remains weighing on their minds.

British Speedway announced plans last week that the Premiership will begin on 3rd May, but the number of spectators allowed will depend on restrictions at the time.

Promoter Chris Louis said: "It's a motorsport so obviously it comes with it's own costs involved to the clubs and the riders as individuals.

"I think running a whole season behind closed doors is not an option.

"If we are faced with that in mid-end of April then a decision has to be made quickly."

While the uncertainty remains, Chris says they are keeping the "positive vibes" going by thinking about getting back out on the track and looking ahead to the Premiership.

Not only did the pandemic prevent racing from going ahead for a lot of 2020, it continues to impact the sport in the new year.

Due to restrictions elsewhere in the world, riders including Nico Covatti will not be taking his place in the Witches' side and both Swindon and Somerset have opted not to ride in the upcoming campaign.

The Witches were last in action in October 2019 as they lost in the Play-Off final.
