Additional patrols are in place in Stowmarket after a serious sexual assault on Sunday.

Suffolk Police say a woman in her 20s was approached by a man at the town's train station between the late afternoon and evening.

She was later dragged to the Gipping Valley River Path, off Station Road East, where she was raped.

Detectives say she is being supported by specialist officers.

A police cordon remains in place near the path as investigations continue, with an increase in uniform and plain-clothed officers.

Detective Inspector Mark Hughes said this is a "very serious incident", and that he "can understand this is concerning for residents in the area."

"Additional patrols have been put in place and residents will likely see an increased presence of both uniform and non-uniform officers while the investigation continues.

"Please can I ask that anyone that has any information comes forward and supports our investigation, including those with CCTV or dash-cameras."

Anyone who was in the area near the Gipping Valley River Path, Stowmarket train station, or Station Road East, from 3-8pm on Sunday is being asked to get in touch.

People living nearby whose houses have CCTV or a doorbell camera, or anyone driving in the area who was has a dashcam, is being asked to review footage in case it may be of assistance to the investigation.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Suffolk Police's West Safeguard Investigation Unit, quoting reference 37/19133/23.
