Police are investigating after a number of wild birds were found dead in woodland at Butley.

Suffolk Police say all 13 birds, including four gulls, were not birds of prey, but were protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

The force say they were shot illegally.

An X-ray showed one of the gulls contained a shot in the head and neck consistent with that from a shotgun.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Suffolk Police, quoting crime reference 37/17999/24.
