Teesside University has been marking International Women’s Day (IWD) with a series of activities across the campus to champion its community of inspiring female students, graduates and staff.

The theme for this year’s IWD is Inspire Inclusion, with Teesside University events planned to celebrate the achievement of women, raise awareness about discrimination, and take action to drive gender equality.

Helen Cutting, Executive Director of Legal and Governance Services & University Secretary, and Executive Champion for Gender Equality, said: “As a University we have such a diverse campus community, and we want to ensure that the wide range of attributes, skills, views and experiences that we all have, are brought forward.

“Recognising the important contribution each individual can make also helps us to ensure a sense of belonging. International Women’s Day provides a great opportunity for staff to join in our work to support gender equality.”

Events took place on Wednesday and Thursday and there will be a conference today as well as a focus session.

The last event will be tomorrow (Saturday):

• MIMA will host GirlBoss: The Sound of International Women's Day, which promises to be a day of inspirational sounds, music-making, and conversation on Saturday 9th March.

Colleagues from across the University are also encouraged to get involved in work to support gender equality by joining the staff Gender Focus Group and support the activities and ideas that the group leads on.
