Man seriously injured after crash during police chase in Middlesbrough

The incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday evening

A man's been seriously injured after a crash during a police chase in Middlesbrough.

The collision, involving a silver Renault Clio and a lamp post, occurred on Normanby Road at 11:40pm on Saturday.

Cleveland Police say it occurred during a "short police pursuit."

North East Ambulance Service have confirmed they took a man to James Cook University Hospital.

The 24-year-old, who was driving the Clio, remains there with serious injuries.

A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car, was treated in hospital for neck and back pain and has since been released.

Cleveland Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct following the collision.
