Hundreds of music shops are celebrating Record Store Day following a surge of interest in vinyl records.

This year will see more than 270 independent record shops celebrate their culture by selling special vinyl releases.

Many stores will also be hosting artist performances across the country to mark the day.

One store in Darlington says they've seen a rise in young people buying vinyls in recent years.

They believe it's popular because of the physical format and everything that you get with it.

Darren Carr is from Saxosoul Records:

"They like to come in and physically browse through the racks. We also like to share our knowledge and at times just have a chat with customers.

"We obviously cater for younger and older people but our younger customers are around 9 or 10 years old and are coming on a regular basis and spending their pocket money on a single or an LP.

"We've noticed a massive increase in younger people buying records from when we set up the business in 2017".
