The M62 is partly back open across the Pennines after an early hours collision in which a man's died.

The motorway shut following a crash around 2am today (Saturday 23rd March) - which is being described by some eyewitnesses as a "horror smash" - West Yorkshire Police have confirmed a vehicle was travelling the wrong way down the carriageway.

It happened close to Scammonden Reservoir.

It understood the road has been cleared but National Highways say it'll be closed for some time due to investigation work.

Traffic is currently being diverted between junction 22 at Rishworth Moor and 24 at Huddersfield with surrounding roads extremely busy
