Emergency services in West Yorkshire are dealing with a large house fire that engulfed a property in the south west of Wakefield.

Officers were alerted to the incident just before 7:10 a.m. on Saturday (April 6th), with responders arriving to the building on Potter Avenue shortly after.

Responders were able to tackle the fire and safely remove the six people who had been in the house when it began.

After being able to escape, it was determined that one man suffered serious injuries following the fire and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The remaining five people in the property all sustained minor injuries and smoke inhalation following the incident.

Currently, a large emergency service presence can be seen on the street, with a large police cordon in place.

West Yorkshire Police have said that they are not treating the fire as "suspicious", but their enquiries are still ongoing.

In addition to this, West Yorkshire Police is working with fire and rescue services, alongside ambulance workers to help piece together the events that led to the fire starting.
