Olympic bosses finally reveal why the diving pool has turned green

Bosses have revealed a cause

Many viewers of the Rio Olympics were left bewildered last week when the Olympic diving pool changed from a light blue colour to a murky green.

Divers including Team GB’s gold medal winners Jack Laugher and Chris Mears performed their routines in the green pool and up until now the main cause has been kept quiet.

However, Olympic bosses have now revealed the real reason behind the mysterious change. Bosses have confessed an unauthorised dump of 80 litres of hydrogen peroxide was to blame for the change, allowing algae to grow at a quick rate.

The director of venue management in Rio, Gustavo Nascimento said "The hydrogen peroxide is used to clean pools, but it shouldn't have been mixed with chlorine. We were not consulted, our contractor's failure is our failure."

After witnessing the pool change colour, many viewers including Team GB diving star, Tom Daley, took to Twitter to ask what was going on.

Despite the colour change it doesn't seem to be affecting the athlete’s performances. Tom Daley will be hoping to add to his bronze medal on Friday 19th August when he takes part in the men's 10m platform final.
