Top tips to cope with Hay Fever as pollen count rises

Forecasters have said the pollen count will be 'high' in parts of the UK over the next few days, meaning there are more visible grains of pollen in the air, which could lead to Hay Fever sufferers experiencing worse symptoms than normal.

Of course, if you are a Hay Fever sufferer, you'll be aware that the horrible symptoms don't only occur when you go outside, a lot of people suffer from things like sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes, headaches, tiredness, loss of smell and pain around the temples and forehead 24 hours a day.

Although there is no current cure for Hay Fever, we've found the best reliefs to cope with the nasty symptoms, according to the NHS.

Top tips to cope with Hay Fever:

Keep windows and doors shut

Keeping your windows and doors shut will prevent the wind blowing in any pollen into your house.

Stay indoors

Staying home is not only protecting the NHS and helping stop the spread of Coronavirus, but it will also minimise your Hay Fever symptoms.

Apply Vaseline to your nostrils

If you smother your nostrils in Vaseline, this will trap any pollen!

Clean your house regularly

Hoovering every day and dusting with a damp cloth with help remove any pollen from your house.

Shower and change your clothes

If you've been outside for your daily exercise or simply been enjoying the sun in your garden, make sure you take a shower and change your clothes, this will wash off any pollen.

Wear wrap around sunglasses

Wearing wrap around sunglasses will prevent any pollen getting into your eyes.

Take Antihistamines

Speak to your local pharmacist about which Antihistamines are best for you.

Wear a mask

Mask wearing has become the new normal over the last few years, but wearing a mask whilst pollen levels are high can have great effect.

If you are a sufferer of Hay Fever during times when the pollen count is high, it's advised you SHOULD NOT do things like cut the grass, go outside for long periods, keep fresh flowers in your home, smoke and dry clothes outside.

According to the NHS, the main symptoms of Hay Fever include:

Itchy, red or watery eyes

Sneezing and coughing

A runny or blocked nose

Headache

Loss of smell

Itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears

Earache

Pain around your temples and forehead

Tiredness
