The singer, known for her exceptional and incomparable voice, became one of the most popular and beloved jazz singers in the 20th century. She would go on to become one of the most recorded females in history and earned countless prestigious awards.

'The First Lady of Song' famously launched Jazz FM on the 4th of March 1990 - almost 30 years ago - at the Royal Albert Hall with the Count Basie Orchestra. This was one of the singer's last public performances.
