It's been announced that legendary saxophonist Gary Bartz, who has recently turned 80, will be releasing his first new studio album in 8 years with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad's Jazz Is Dead label.

Whether playing with titans like Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner and Art Blakey or playing with contemporary descendants like Maisha and Lakecia Benjamin, the saxophonist's impact on the world of jazz and progressive Black music has been immense. The socio-political content of much of Bartz’s work, particularly during the early ‘70s, is another factor that has captured the attention of and influenced many.

Reflecting on Bartz's contribution to Jazz Is Dead, Adrian Younge said "Gary Bartz epitomizes the ethos behind Jazz Is Dead...He’s a luminary that has contributed so much to music culture, for decades. His musical ability is expanding with age and we’re honoured to be a part of his world.”
