We're very pleased to announce that our very own Jez Nelson has been awarded an MBE in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list, recognising the outstanding achievements of individuals across the United Kingdom.

Jez has been awarded an MBE (a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to the radio industry. Having started his radio career on several pirate radio jazz stations - such as KJazz - Jez became one of the original members of Jazz FM upon its launch in 1990.

You can revisit the opening moments of Somethin' Else at 30, the 30th anniversary of Jez Nelson and Chris Philips's icon show below as part of our Established 1990**** celebrations.

Jez would leave Jazz FM the following year and join our sister station Kiss (then known as Kiss 100) before going onto co-found production media and content company Somethin' Else.

Alongside being the Executive Chairman & CEO of the successful content creation company Somethin' Else, Jez is a Radio Academy Fellow and continues to present the musically eclectic and open minded Somethin' Else on Jazz FM, every Sunday evening from 10pm.
