The Mercury Prize 2022 shortlist has been announced

The Mercury Prize 2022 nominee shortlist has been announced this morning, with Scottish jazz pianist and composer Fergus McCreadie, the genre-crossing Little Simz and the introspective alternative hip hop artist Kojey Radical in the running for the prestigious award.
To be eligible for the awards, the albums have to have been released between July 2021 and July 2022 by British or Irish artists.
Other names, who are in the running for the award, include R&B artist Joy Crookes, indie rock duo Wet Leg, and former One Director superstar Harry Styles.
Out of the 12 shortlisted names, 5 of the artists have received the nomination for their debut album. This year's shortlist is also a female majority.
The prize, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, will be decided by an independent judging panel, made up of key figures from the British and Irish music industries, including jazz musician Jamie Cullum, broadcaster and DJ Jamz Supernova, and Chief Rock & Pop Critic Will Hodgkinson.

Mercury Prize 2021 - Winner
London-based singer-songwriter Arlo Parks was the recipient of the Mercury Prize 2021 for her alternative debut albumCollapsed In Sunbeams. The intimate and soulful album touches upon a variety of themes, including mental health, sexuality and hope.

What is the Mercury prize?
The Mercury Prize is compared to the Turner Prize and Booker Prize for the British music industry.
The Prize is designed to celebrate and recognise both established and emerging artists from across the British music industry.
When will the Mercury Prize 2022 be announced?
The Mercury Prize 2022 will take place on Thursday the 8th of September at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, London.
The Prize’s broadcast partner, BBC Music, will be providing coverage of the event across BBC TV, BBC Radio 6 Music, online & social media.
