Ahead of the Jazz FM Awards 2022 with PPL and PRS for Music, which takes place on the 20th of October 2022, we wanted to shine a light on each of our nominees.
Here, we're taking a look at our nominees for 'The Digital Award, sponsored by Rathbones': jazzed, Summer of Soul, and We Out Here Festival.
What is jazzed?
Launched in early 2020, jazzed is the world’s first dedicated audio-visual streaming destination for jazz and offers an integrated experience for fans to listen, watch and read about the music they love.
The app contains an extensive, and carefully curated, catalogue of music, sporting over 50 hand-curated audio channels, with documentaries, concerts, sessions, stories, new, features, and album reviews available on the service.
What is 'Summer of Soul'?
Directed by The Roots' Questlove, Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), tells the story of the 1969 Harlem Cultural festival.
The film - described as part historical record and part documentary - traces the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival over the course of six weeks, the same summer as Woodstock.
This remarkable event celebrated Black history and culture saw Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Sly & The Family Stone, Max Roach, Mahalia Jackson, B. B. King and many more perform to over 300,000 people during the course of the festival.
The feature film contains extracts of 40 hours of never-seen-before footage shot by the pioneering Hal Tulchin, which had been in storage for five decades.
What is We Out Here Festival?
Having taken our name from the 2018 Brownswood compilation; a calling card for London's bright-burning young jazz scene, We Out Here Festival sees integral members of the movement alongside legendary icons, genre-spanning DJs and young improvisers alike for four days of music in one of the UK's most beautiful, landscaped festival sites.
The brainchild of DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson, We Out Here Festival joins the musical dots between soul, hip hop, house, afro, electronica, jazz and beyond, we showcase both outstanding live music and some of the best record collections in the world.
The festival, which takes place at Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire, places an emphasis on high quality food and drink offerings, arts and cultural offerings, crisp sound and production, family activities and wellness: all to compliment quality-led musical curation.

The winners of the Jazz FM Awards 2022 with PPL and PRS for Music will be announced on the 20th of October 2022, with the ceremony taking place at Shoreditch Town Hall.
The winners will be revealed on our social media channels, and in a special show, which will be broadcast from 2200-0000 on the 20th of October.
