Billy Corgan has shared a photo from the recording studio strongly hinting a reunion of original Smashing Pumpkins members is on the cards.

Rumours of the ‘classic’ Smashing Pumpkins line-up of Billy Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, guitarist James Iha and bassist D’arcy Wretzky reuniting have been bounding around for some time now and a picture the frontman shared on Instagram yesterday has only fuelled the fire.

The image depicts Billy, James and Jimmy in apparent deep discussion in the studio and it’s captioned: “Not sure what cross-eyed spy took this photo, but we had a visitor to the studio the other day. So many memories when you put the three of us together. @jamesihaofficial @chamberdrums #WPC”

Last October in an interview with Rhythm Magazine, Jimmy Chamberlain revealed the original quartet “were talking about maybe recording next year with the Pumpkins”.

“I want to make sure (if the reunion happens) that I bring some really different stuff to the table,” he added.

“The purpose of this sabbatical needs to be revealed in the music. I’m counting on everyone bringing some new shit to the table that is representative of the chance-taking that we’ve always done.”

Speaking in August 2016, Billy Corgan said all four members were in contact again for the first time since before the millennium, saying: “I’ve been in communication with D’arcy for the first time in 16 or 17 years, it’s awesome to have my friend back.

“So we’re all in communication, which as I said not too long ago, my primary interest in the old band was us having good relationships again.

“We’re not at that point, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re not rushing to something. We have to repair some things between us, and see what’s out there for us, if those opportunities are even there.”

Fingers crossed there is a big announcement soon!
