The band played their first show in almost 19 months at Rocklahoma

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor unveiled his fearsome new mask at the band’s first concert in almost 19 months last night (4th September) in Oklahoma.
Shortly before Slipknot took to the stage for their headline slot at Rocklahoma, the band posted a photo of themselves in a group huddle backstage.
The Iowan masked metallers wrote: “Back on stage for the first time in 18 months later tonight. Get ready.” Slipknot last performed live at Hartwall Areena in Finland back in February 2020.
Although Corey Taylor’s new mask was obscured in the Instagram pic, he unveiled it in all its macabre glory as soon as Slipknot stepped on stage and launched into ‘Unsainted.’
Part skull, part dead shark, part Dr. Decker from 1990 movie Nightbreed, the mask has disconcerting circular eyes and is held together by rudimentary stitches.

Corey Taylor was the only member of Slipknot to reveal a new guise at Rocklahoma.
Speaking to Steve‑O’s Wild Ride! podcast back in April, Corey Taylor promised that his new mask wouldn’t disappoint.
“My new mask, is gonna f---ing scare kids,” Corey enthused. “It’s so gnarly, dude. It’s really uncomfortable; it freaked my wife (Alicia Dove) out. She won’t look at it – and she loves crazy s--- like that. She’s just like, ’That’s really bothering me, you need to put that picture away!’”
Commenting on the process of devising new masks, Corey continued: “Sometimes we have a vision in our head – Clown is really good at it, because he’s an artist, so he’ll go somewhere gnarly and be like, ‘Okay, I’ve got this image…’ and then we’ll have outside people create it.
“But then there’s sometimes where you’re just like, ‘I don’t have a real vision, but I have an idea,’ and you talk through it with a visual arts guy or a visual effects guy, and they will create it for you. And then you’ll look at it and go, ‘I like this, change this, blah blah blah.’ And you whittle it down until you get to something that’s really rad.”

Joey Jordison's 'All Hope Is Gone' Jesus crown of thorns mask
The late Joey Jordison's iconic crucified Jesus mask was brought in for the 'All Hope Is Gone' era in 2008. A crown of thorns and warped stitches were added to his Kabuki mask, whilst some truly off-putting twigs or branches seemed to grow out of his fingers in place of nails. One of the most creepy Slipknot looks of all time, as demonstrated in this incredible photo of Joey on stage at Hammersmith Apollo in London.

The organic, flowing shapes of his high-contrast designs evoke feelings of mysticism and beauty, balanced within the duality of chaos and order one feels as a visitor in this wondrous country."
