An EDM remix of My Chemical Romance’s anthem ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ has divided the band’s fans – despite being endorsed by Gerard Way.

DJ and producer Steve Aoki has given the track a drop-packed dance makeover to celebrate its 10th birthday and unveiled it on his Soundcloud account last night.

Enthusing about the remix, Gerard Way told Buzzfeed: “You know, when you’ve written a song, sometimes it’s really hard to wrap your brain around what somebody else is doing, or maybe the way that they see the song. But right away, I really loved his remix.

“And what I love about it is the sounds are phenomenal, and he’s kept the intensity, and I think in some ways, the purpose of the song. So, I loved it right away. I was like, this is really cool. And it’s always fun to hear somebody, especially somebody as talented as Steve, it’s fun to hear the way they see the song.”

He continued: “It has that bed of music there, still, that the band was a part of. It has those important melodies, and it has those important root notes. So, you know, I think it does a really great job of capturing the essence of the song and turning it into something new.”

Also waxing lyrical, Steve Aoki said: ”This is a song that’s not just representing My Chemical Romance, it represents an entire culture. This is absolutely one of the most important songs of our generation. I’m just happy that the 10-year anniversary came out and I was lucky - honoured - to be able to work on it.”

Unfortunately for Gerard and Steve, many My Chemical Romance fans don’t share their enthusiasm.

One Soundcloud user wrote: “You gotta have some talent and balls to remix a classic and make it good. This is not one of them, unfortunately.”

Another complained: “Three and a half minutes of my life I won't get back. unghh....”

Summing up the feelings of many, another user wrote: “This has to be some sort of sick joke... wtf steve aoki.”

On the other side of the spectrum, some fans expressed unwavering loyalty to Gerard, writing comments like: “u guys r all hating!! my i remind u that gerard way approved this and he said that he loved it!”

While others actually liked it: “I've honestly never heard an Alt. song, mixed w/ more mainstream music...I'm really digging this! it's unique, new & different! #NewFavoriteJam.”
