Megadeth were forced to cancel a gig in Paraguay on Saturday night (20th August) after hundreds of fans crashed through security gates in a crush.

The thrash icons were just seven songs into their set at the Sport Colombia stadium in Asuncion when there was a massive surge in the crowd.

Police have confirmed to InterAksyon.com that several people were hurt in the crush, while Dave Mustaine has revealed that one female fan was almost killed.

Dave took to Twitter to explain why the band were forced to abort the show. He wrote:

"Dear Paraguay, after all three barricades broke and hundreds of fans crushed three security guards, almost killing one female fan, we regretfully had to cancel the show.

“Please understand that your safety is just as important as ours and after all the security went in the pit someone ran onto the stage, a bottle was thrown, and we'll let you know as soon as we can reschedule and come back. Lo siento.

“This is out of our hands and we will make sure when we return to use a different venue, security, and promoter. Again, Lo siento mucho."

Megadeth continue the South American leg of the Dystopia Tour at Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina tonight (22nd August).
