Muse have premiered their new song ‘Something Human’ and its retrofuturistic music video.

Lifted from the Teignmouth trio’s upcoming eighth studio album, which will tentatively land this November, ‘Something Human’ was co-produced by Muse and Rich Costey and mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.

The track itself is a cinematic, electronic-tinged anthem that lyrically addresses the need to reset and re-engage with our human emotions.

Muse once again drafted in Lance Drake to direct the video having worked with him on the 'Dig Down' and 'Thought Contagion' promos.

Embracing eighties futurism and nodding towards a plethora of films from that era including Tron, Teen Wolf and The Terminator, it tells the story of a man’s request to return a VHS tape to a video shop before he turns into a werewolf.

Singer Matt Bellamy says of the song: “Life on the road can bring out your inner beast, this song and video is about taming that beast, desiring a return to something human. Plus, Teen Wolf is cool”.

Director Lance Drake said: “Our aim with 'Something Human' was to continue the journey that began in 'Dig Down' and 'Thought Contagion.'

“Pulling further into a simulated world we follow Matt, Dom, and, Chris on the chase of a lifetime - where something as simple as returning some video tapes becomes an epic journey."

Speaking about Muse’s new album, Matt Bellamy told Billboard: “We’re definitely very excited. We are putting the finishing touches on the album at the moment, hoping to get the album finished over the next few weeks. If all goes to plan, the album will be out in November.

“We made this album quite spaced out over the last year and a half, interspersed with shows. Last year we did about 30 shows, mostly in the U.S. and this year we’ve done about six shows. It’s felt quite healthy to have that balance between playing a handful of shows here and there and then being in the studio without being burnt out by either of those two things.

“We’ve felt re-energized by finding that balance, playing shows but not so many that you want to take a big hiatus, so it’s been really refreshing for that reason. And it’s the most we’ve ever been involved in the media making process, we’ve been working with Lance Drake and we’re hoping to work with him for all the videos for the album and get into this idea of a sort of world-building mentality around this album, where there will be visual things that go throughout the album, linking together in certain ways.”
