Pierce The Veil have revealed their grand ambition to headline Download Festival in the next decade.

11 years and four studio albums into their career, the San Diego quartet made their Download debut on Saturday afternoon playing a glorious late afternoon set on the Main Stage.

Speaking to Kerrang! Radio’s Jack Wood backstage, bassist Jaime Preciado said their career had been a “slow build” but they still have a yearning to reach the absolute pinnacle and top the bill at Download.

Explaining how the band get along so well, Jaime said: “We’ve gotten super lucky with the guys in the band and I think everyone really loves what they do.

“When we started the band we kind of had the same goal and I think having that kind of talk in the beginning like ‘we’re gonna make this band, we’re gonna go full force 100%, this is going to be our lives’ and we’ve done that for the last ten years.

“Y’know it’s been a slow, slow build – it’s our first time playing Download and we’re really happy after ten years.”

Reflecting on playing Download, Jaime added: “We’re happy, we’re not complaining, we’re very excited but it has been a long run and hopefully we can just continue doing that until one day we can maybe headline Download. 2025, 2035, we’ll be in stretchers or walkers or whatever!”

Jaime also said that one year and one month on from the release of ‘Misadventures’, Pierce The Veil are “right on the cusp” of starting to write new material.

“We’re so involved with everything that we do as a band, every time we’re on tour we’re in tour mode getting ready for the next couple of shows,” Jaime explained. “Hopefully after this festival run we get to go home for a little bit, we do some award shows and do a little support run with Rise Against in the States, which will be fun. And then - and only then - will we probably hunker down and lock ourselves in a room."

Lead guitarist Tony Perry added: “There’s no plans to get into the studio yet. To be honest, it’s really crazy that it’s been a year (since the release of ‘Misadventures’) because it feels like we’ve only just started touring.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Tony and Jaime lavished Jack with praise for his glitter beard, spoke about the joys of fancy dress at festivals and revealed why ‘Misadventures’ took them four years to make.
