Slipknot singer Corey Taylor has vowed that the Iowan masked metallers will never reveal the identity of their mystery percussionist ‘Tortilla Man’.

Following the departure of Chris Fehn in highly acrimonious circumstances in March, Slipknot unveiled their enigmatic new keg beater to the world in May when they premiered the ‘Unsainted’ video.

Since then, Slipknot have kept their lips tightly sealed about the identity of their percussionist – affectionately dubbed Tortilla Man by Maggots due to his mask – with Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan even telling Kerrang! that it’s “nobody’s f---ing business.”

In a fresh interview with Australian website The Music, Corey Taylor says Slipknot are enjoying the mystique around Tortilla Man so much it’s unlikely they will ever tell fans who he is.

Explaining the mystery wasn’t the band's main intention but “a cool by-product” of proceedings, Corey said: “We didn't want the emphasis to be on the new guy, we wanted the emphasis to be on the music.

"That was what it was always about for us. We didn't want the drama, we didn't want the bulls---, we wanted the attention to be on the fact that we had new music coming out. And as we pushed it even further, it's driven people so f---ing crazy... Now, we're like, 'We're never gonna tell now.' It's really fun.”

Last month Tortilla Man brilliantly trolled Slipknot fans at a European show on the We Are Not Your Kind World Tour.

An image was posted to Reddit of Tortilla Man standing next to his drums. Scribbled on the drum skins are the words ‘Who is the new guy?’ and an outline of a head and shoulders with a question mark over them.

Back in 2014, drummer Jay Weinberg’s identity was revealed when his ex-bandmate Laura Jane Grace slammed him on social media.

Allessando ‘VMan’ Venturella of Krokodil was unmasked by eagle-eyed Maggots who spotted his distinctive hand tattoos in the ‘The Devil In I’ video in September 2014.

Corey Taylor later voiced his dismay at VMan’s identity being revealed, saying: “Somebody already pointing out the tattoos. I was like, ‘Why didn’t we make him wear gloves?’ I was so upset.

“We thought of all this stuff – we put the hood on him and then the mask, and he was like, ‘It’s really hot, guys.’ Then there’s his tattoos for everybody. We missed the mark on that one.”

Slipknot’s phenomenal sixth studio album ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ was released last Friday (9th August) and it’s currently leading Ed Sheeran’s ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ in the race for the Official Album Chart top spot.
