Stone Temple Pilots have rubbished speculation that Creed’s Scott Stapp is joining the band as their new frontman.

Stapp himself fuelled the rumours in an interview with Jason Bailey of Atlanta’s Rock 100.5 when he said he was joining forces with a new band.

“I’m excited to be back out on the road also been working on a new album with a new group of guys,” Stapp said over the weekend. “Guys from some pretty well-known rock bands that you guys will know.

“I can’t really share the details about it but there’s a lot of good things going on that I can’t tell you till later in June when we’ll be making the announcement. This other band I’m jamming with is its own band with its own band name.”

Directly asked whether he’s new the Stone Temple Pilots singer, Stapp responded: "I can't say, man, I can't say. I can't confirm or deny.

“(But) I will tell you this: there is a six-degree-separation connection between this new project and the band you mentioned."

After numerous news outlets picked up the story, last night Stone Temple Pilots took swift action to quash the rumours.

They wrote: “Despite recent comments, Scott Stapp is not, nor has he ever been considered as the singer for STP.”

Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz have been auditioning for a new vocalist since Chester Bennington amicable left the group last November to focus on Linkin Park. Original singer Scott Weiland died the following month.
