Foo Fighters treated their fans in Melbourne to a very special cover on Tuesday night (30th January).

Joined on stage by Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo at Melbourne Etihad Stadium, Dave Grohl told the 56,000 capacity crowd: “We thought, last night of the Australian tour, we’d do something f---ing special for you. Now’s Rivers has come up to sing a f---ing song for us. Are you ready Rivers?”

After Rivers confirmed he was “ready to rock”, the band blitzed through a cover of KISS’s 1976 anthem ‘Detroit Rock City’ with Rivers taking on Paul Stanley’s lead vocals.

A regular cover on the Sonic Highways World Tour in 2015, the gig was only the 17th time Foo Fighters have performed their version of ‘Detroit Rock City’.

At Dave Grohl’s 46th birthday concert at The Inglewood Forum in Los Angeles in January 2015, KISS’s Paul Stanley joined the Foos on stage to perform the track alongside ‘Do You Love Me’. You can watch that footage below.

Foo Fighters’ Concrete and Gold Tour has already seen them perform with Rick Astley, Liam Gallagher, The Hives’ Pelle Almqvist and Dave former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic.

The band play three completely sold out shows in Manchester and London this June, taking in the following venues:
