Muse’s Matt Bellamy has revealed their surprising source of their ‘Plug In Baby’ song title.

Appearing on Dave Berry’s Absolute Radio show yesterday alongside drummer Dominic Howard, Matt said their 2001 anthem took its name from a product he stumbled across in a certain shop catalogue almost two decades ago.

“We got the name for the song Plug in Baby from an Argos catalogue,” Matt said. “This was back in the late 90’s or 2000’s. It was like a baby monitor and it was called a ‘Plug in Baby’. We saw that, we thought that’s a great song name, let’s just use that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Matt said that Muse’s aim with their live shows is always to “blow people’s minds.”

“That’s our goal, that’s our intention, that’s what we’re born to do…. get out there and blow minds. That’s it. That’s what we do,” Matt said.

“We’re not touring yet for a while, we’re only doing like four shows this year to keep ourselves energised whilst making the album, but they’re not in the UK unfortunately, they’re in other places. Next year we’re gonna come to the UK. We’ve got some cool, crazy ideas.”

Last Friday, Muse unveiled the incredible video for their new song ‘Thought Contagion’ that follows an “80s infectious neon love story” featuring vampires and umpteen nods to 80s movies and music videos.

Explaining what the song is about, Matt Bellamy says: “The meaning of the song ‘Thought Contagion’ is about how other people’s thoughts, ideas and beliefs can sometimes infect your mind, get into your head and change the way you think yourself”.
