Weezer have unveiled details of their eleventh studio album ‘Pacific Daydream’.

The follow-up to April 2016’s ‘Weezer’ - aka ‘The White Album’ - was produced by Butch Walker (Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Katy Perry) and is released on Crush Music/Atlantic Records on October 27th, 2017.

Originally going by the title of ‘The Black Album’, Weezer decided to change the title to something more apt as, according to the press blurb, ‘they found the songs they were writing felt more like reveries from a beach at the end of the world.’

Rivers Cuomo quotes a Chinese proverb to explain the title U-turn: “Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly.

“I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”

Profound stuff.

To celebrate the album announcement, Weezer have unveiled their brilliant new song ‘Mexican Fender’, which, just like its Guns N’ Roses aping predecessor ‘Feels Like Summer’, comes with a highly memorable video.

This time around the video follows the exploits of a seagull on a beach who falls in love with a woman and lavishes her with gifts to get her attention.

Coinciding with the release of ‘Pacific Daydream’, Weezer are heading out on a five-date UK tour. Tickets are on sale from Kerrang! Radio tickets now.
