Founder of the original KISS FM George Power has passed away

George Power, a legendary DJ from London, has passed away. George, was one of the co-founders of the original KISS FM back in the 80's when it was a pirate radio station, alongside Gordon 'Mac' McNamee.

A statement on George's website paid tribute and celebrated numerous achievements throughout his life, ended with, 'It cannot be understated how important George was to London’s clubs in the seventies and eighties.

Fans of George took to Twitter to share their sadness over his death. One wrote, 'More sad news- very shocked to be told of the passing of one of London's legendary DJ's, George Power-responsible for so much of London's amazing scene back in the 80's and 90's. he was with a friend of mine only on Wednesday talking about future plans - R.I.P. George- Legend!'

Another wrote, 'Gutted to hear of the passing of a real genuine London legend of a DJ George Power.'

Crackers Radio, a station also founded by George, paid tribute on Twitter, posting a photo of him behind the microphone and the caption, 'Crackers Radio sadly announces the passing of its founder and Brit Soul DJ pioneer, Mr George Power. The station sends its condolences to his family and close friends, George Power RIP.'

George Power - a dedicated man who's hard work alongside his colleagues helped create the original pirate KISS FM.
