Lady Gaga has leapt to the defence of fellow singer Ed Sheeran after he quit Twitter.

Ed announced he’s quit the social media platform after becoming fed up with the abuse he received on it.

Ed told a national newspaper: “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that.”

The 26-year-old singer continued: “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it”, explaining he spent too much time “trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

Now Lady Gaga has shown the love for Ed on an Instagram post, posting a selfie of the pair together with caption ‘What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED, Ed deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and a part of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top.’

The post comes after a number of Gaga’s fans trolled Ed, after they assumed he was throwing shade at the singer in an interview he gave earlier this year. In the interview, Ed said “I do not want to do the Super Bowl years later, after my biggest success, just to prove I’m still relevant."
