In an open letter Avicii real name Tim Bergling has announced he will be leaving the music industry after his current set of shows.

Released on his website the open letter thanked his fans for giving him the opportunity 'to be able to travel all around the world and perform'.

The 26-year-old Swedish producer didn't cite a particular reason for his change of direction, but said, 'Two weeks ago, I took the time to drive across the U.S. with my friends and team, to just look and see and think about things in a new way. It really helped me realize that I needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while.'

For the last four years Avicii has been plagued with a number of health problems, beginning with acute pancreatitis in 2012 which resulted with him being hospitalised for 11 days. The following year doctors urged him to have his gallbladder removed after further problems, but with a tough schedule to keep to he opted to carry on without the operation.

In March 2014 he eventually had his gallbladder and appendix removed, before taking some time out later in the year to properly recover.

Avicii finishes his letter saying, 'I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows.'

He also said fans can text him if they have any questions 'P.S. I've got a new phone so you can text me re all this +46769436383. Please bare with me I might not be super quick to reply. X'

The 'Hey Brother' DJ still has a string of dates confirmed this year including every Sunday at the open air nightclub Ushuaia in Ibiza and various UK festivals including a headline performance at Creamfields on Saturday 27th August.
