KISS Nights: Behind The Booth with Joel Corry

Joel Corry has had huge success over the last couple of years, with his HUGE Summer track 'Head & Heart' with MNEK which reached No.1! Since then he's produced BANGER after BANGER, dropping 'Bed' ft David Guetta and RAYE plus most recently 'I Wish' ft Mabel.

He's been a busy guy, but we've grabbed him between touring and catching flights to answer a few burning q's for us. 🙌

How did it all start for you?

"I got my first pair of decks for Christmas when I was 13 years old. My roots are in Garage, it was a great era to grow up in. DJing was my biggest hobby and passion growing up. I am lucky to have made a career doing the thing I love most in life!"

What track are you most proud of releasing?

"I am so proud of all my records, but 'Head & Heart' was my first number one single. Working with MNEK was amazing, he deserves it more than anyone. I am so happy to be a part of his journey and we shared this life changing moment together."

Who is your biggest inspiration? / Who do you have a lot of respect for?

"I look at successful people for inspiration. People like The Rock and Cristiano Ronaldo motivate me to work harder and get to the top of the game."

What single night out has been the most memorable for you as a DJ?

"The first time I played in Ibiza. It's such a special place to me, and I will be going back there for the rest of my life! Grandad Corry will still be raving it up in 30 years’ time lol!"

Which part of DJing comes the most naturally to you?

"I love the touring side of DJing. I am in my element when I am travelling and gigging. After years of being on the road, I can handle the late nights and early flights!"

What is it that you love about the scene?

"I love creating moments on the dancefloor and giving people unforgettable nights. Being part of people’s memories and their best nights out is the best feeling!"

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?

"Be prepared to work for free at the start. I warmed up for DJs for years until I got my chance. Also, be polite, manners do not cost a thing and go a long way in this industry, Enjoy the journey, when I look back even the years when I was grinding it out I was always grateful to be doing what I love to do."

What is your set up?

"2 x CDJ 2000 NXS2. 1 x DJM 900 NXS2. 1 x RMX 1000. And some decent booth monitors!"

If you could eternally be stuck in one year's music scene, which year would it be?

"I can't pick one but Deep House 2011 – 2015. What an era!"

Any exciting new dance genres, we need to know about?

"The emergence of minimal tech house over the last few years. Grooves and good vibes!"

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

"It's got to be, Armand Van Helden – 'You Don’t Know Me'"

Fave Venue in the world?

"Space Ibiza and Sankeys Ibiza, sadly they are both closed now. I also love Printworks in London."

If one celebrity in the world could come to one of your shows, who would it be?

"The Rock! Imagine The Rock in the DJ booth fist pumping next to me haha!"

You're super busy DJing most of the time, but what is your perfect night in or out?

"My perfect night out would involve a big Nandos followed by a movie night. Netflix and maybe some chill lol! "😏
