Cardi B amongst celebrities defending Lizzo following hateful online comments
The singer was in tears on Instagram Live
Cardi B and many other celebrities have jumped to the defence of Lizzo after she posted a video of herself in tears following cruel comments from online users.
The 'Juice' singer took to Instagram Live to express her feelings after being constantly attacked by online users with cruel fat-phobic and racist comments.
In the video Lizzo is visibly upset and says: "There are people that have something mean to say about you and for the most part it doesn’t hurt my feelings, I don’t care." She continued: "I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower, I’m more sensitive and it gets to me."
Lizzo explained that the abuse she was receiving was clearly not based on her music: "It’s fat-phobic, it’s racist and it’s hurtful. If you don’t like my music, cool, if you don’t like Rumours it’s all cool, but a lot of people don’t like me because of the way I look and I’m like… Anyway I’m just having one of those days where I don’t have no time. I think I’m just overwhelmed"
Cardi B, who features on Lizzo's latest single 'Rumors' jumped to her defence and tweeted: 'Rumors is doing great. Stop trying to say the song is flopping to dismiss a woman emotions on bullying or acting like they need sympathy. The song is top 10 on all platforms. Body shaming and callin her mammy is mean & racist as (...).'(sic)
Cardi was able to prove her point by attaching screenshots that shows their new single climbing the charts on multiple platforms.
Singer Chlöe Bailey and actress Jameela Jamil also came to Lizzo's defence. Chlöe tweeted: 'i’m so proud of you @lizzo people are gonna talk, but you have power in your voice. thank you for inspiring me ♥️🦋' (sic)
Jameela who's known for her role as Tahani on The Good Place said: 'Lizzo makes a song about people spending energy trying to bring women down. Twitter erupts in abuse about her talent and mostly her appearance, and then she cries on IG live while addressing how damaging this culture is, and she gets made fun of for crying. This is so (...) up.'

After studying classical music at the University of Houston, Lizzo lived out of her car for a year following her father's death to break into the music industry. She moved to Minneapolis in 2011, performing with various indie bands including Lizzo & the Larva Ink.
Lizzo also performed as part of a three-piece band the Chalice, releasing an album in 2012. She released her solo debut album, 'Lizzobangers', in 2013, and it was re-released on Virgin Records a year later.
She toured as a support act for Har Mar Superstar in 2013, and also sang with his band. Lizzo worked on a body positivity campaign What's Underneath for StyleLikeU in 2014, writing the song 'My Skin' after being inspired by the project.
Collaborating with pop icon Prince in 2014 on his album Plectrumelectrum, Lizzo called it "surreal... almost like a fairytale" and that it was "something I will never actually get over." Her second studio album 'Big Grrrl Small World' was released in 2015, and she briefly became a host for MTV.
Lizzo signed with Atlantic Records in 2016, and put out EP 'Coconut Oil that same year, which featured 'Good As Hell', and received huge critical acclaim - with many praising Lizzo for her inspirational lyrics about self-love and self-acceptance.
She went on the 'Good As Hell Tour' in 2017, and also appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race. The following year, she toured with the likes of Haim and Florence and The Machine.
2018.was a big year for Lizzo in different ways - she became a hugely influential figure regarding body positivity, featuring in campaigns and on the covers of magazines. She released her third album 'Cuz I Love You' in January 2019, spawning singles 'Juice' and Tempo featuring Missy Elliott. She then performed at Coachella Festival.
In 2019, she performed at Glastonbury Festival, and released a remix of 'Good As Hell' featuring Ariana Grande. In February 2020, Lizzo told us that she'd love to work with Ariana again - this time on brand new music... Make it happen!
