Ed Sheeran reveals REAL reason why he left Twitter

He's back now!

Ed Sheeran quit Twitter earlier in the week, and whilst he's reactivated his account already, the 'Shape Of You' singer has revealed the real reason why he left the popular social media site.

Ed deactivated his account @EdSheeran just hours after he received a ton of abuse for his cameo appearance in the latest episode of Game Of Thrones.

Despite many thinking Ed left due to the criticism, the superstar singer has now confirmed that wasn't the case, and in fact he'd already thought about coming off the site.

Taking to Instagram to get his point across, Ed wrote, 'Last I’ll say on this. I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo, because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that.' sic

He added, 'It’s clearly f*’ awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want. Here is an unrelated picture of me and my wonderful manager riding off into the sunset together.’

That's that settled!

Although Ed's Twitter account is back, the 26-year-old has changed his bio to read, 'I don't use this anymore, please follow me on @teddysphotos on instagram, lots of love x'

Ed made his Game Of Thrones debut earlier in the week when he appeared in a scene with Maisie Williams' character Arya Stark. In the scene Ed is seen sitting with a group of soldiers playing on his guitar and singing. Arya rides past the group on a horse and remarks “It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before” to which Ed replies “It’s a new one”.

Fans of the show were quick to criticise Ed’s appearance on the fantasy HBO series.

Coming to Ed's defence, the director of the episode ‘Dragonstone’, Jeremy Podeswa, has addressed the criticism of Ed’s cameo. Podeswa told Newsweek, “I think Ed did a lovely job, he’s a lovely actor and a lovely person.”

He added, “He was appropriate for the part because he needed to sing. If people didn’t know who Ed was, they wouldn’t have thought about it twice. The hoo-ha seems to be from things that are outside of the world of the show. In the world of the show he did a lovely job, and he looks like he belongs in that world."

Addressing the backlash to the episode, Podeswa said, “I was quite surprised about the reaction actually because I know he's very well known and a successful singer but you’re in the bubble of the show—the cast are well known too, everybody is really well known...none of them can walk down the street without being followed. You don't think about that very much in this context.”

Podeswa explained that Ed was a pleasure to work with, he said, “He comes with no entourage. There's nothing connected with him that's in the least bit self-aware or self-conscious."

It seems Ed wasn't fazed by the criticism either! The singer shared a number of posts on Instagram about the episode.

Meanwhile back to the music, Ed announced a massive UK stadium tour for 2018. The 'Castle On The Hill' singer is set to play dates across Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, London and Cardiff.
