Kanye clarifies his explosive Grammy comments

The rapper didn't intend to disrespect Beck

Kanye West has explained his controversial post-Grammys outburst about the event and singer-songwriter Beck.

The rapper initially made a light-hearted attempt to interrupt Beck’s acceptance speech as he claimed the gong for Album of the Year.

However following the incident, he later accused the Grammys of ‘diminishing art and not respecting the craft’, as well as claiming that Beck should have handed his award to Beyonce.

Kanye has now told TMZ that he was not disrespecting Beck with his actions, but instead intending a swipe at the Grammys.

“I wasn’t saying Beck, I said the Grammys," he explained.

"Beck knows that Beyonce should have won. I love Beck, but he didn’t have album of the year.”

Meanwhile, Beck has responded to Kanye West’s initial comments, telling US Weekly about his admiration for the rapper.

“I was just so excited he was coming up,” he said.

Kanye West deserves to be on stage as much as anybody… How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?”

On Kanye’s attempt to interrupt his speech, Beck said: “You can't please everybody, man. I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday 8th February.
