Little Mix post throwback from 'LM5: The Tour' to support #LetTheMusicPlay

Back in 2020, Little Mix came together with others from across the music industry to support #LetTheMusicPlay. Sharing a throwback pic from their latest tour, 'LM5: The Tour', Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson, told their fans, 'This was one of our last shows on LM5: The Tour. This was such an incredible night and would not have been possible without everyone working so hard behind the scenes.

'Due to coronavirus, the live industry is on the verge of collapse, with people losing their jobs and festivals and venues being at risk of closing. It’s time for the government to step up and save the industry #LetTheMusicPlay'.

The live music industry suffered because of many cancellations and postponements due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Music festivals support 85,000 jobs and many faced collapse with 59% redundancies across the sector without further support.

Dua Lipa also took to her socials in 2020 to support the cause, sharing a number of photos of herself performing at concerts over the years.

She wrote, 'I miss this so much! I'm so grateful for the opportunities I've been given. Now it's time to pay back to the incredible people who make up the UK music industry including all the crew who work so hard behind the scenes. From the very start of my own career, playing live concerts up and down the country has been a cornerstone for my own career.

'I am proud to have had the chance to play through all the levels…small clubs, then theatres and ballrooms and into arenas, and of course festivals in between each touring cycle. But the possibility for other emerging British artists to take the same path is in danger and the livelihoods of those who work behind the scenes are at risk. The industry urgently needs Govt support in the interim period before all the various venues, festivals & promoters are ready and able to operate independently again. #LetTheMusicPlay' (sic)

Example also supported the campaign, posting a lengthy statement to his Instagram page, telling fans, 'This was my last gig. London. March 7th. Pre-COVID19

'Because of the complex challenges the live music industry faces, it will be one of the last sectors to reopen. As other parts of the economy start to reopen, the live music industry is calling on the Government to provide vital sector-specific support. Which they’re currently not very interested in helping out with 🤯

'This isn’t affecting artists such as myself I’ll be honest. Of course I am sad to not be on stage but I can afford to live right now. But my manager, my DJ, my tour manager, my agent, my photographer, my lighting guys, my tour bus drivers - all of these people have bills to pay and families to support. And that’s before you even consider all the security and bar staff and rubbish pickers and cleaners who I often don’t know personally but are vital to my profession. Vital to your night out. Vital to your weekend at a festival. The companies that employ this workforce need support.

Kelli-Leigh, who features on James Hype's track 'More Than Friends', wrote, '#letthemusicplay These were the last two shows I did pre Lockdown. Supporting @thehouseandgarageorchestra at @roundhouseldn & @cruz101official release party for ‘Cotton Clouds’ ☁️ Live performance is key in our industry.

'It added 4.5BN to the UK economy in 2019 & created over 210,000 jobs. The government needs to support our industry, our musicians, our venues, our artists, our crew, our techs, our tour managers, our LDs, our engineers, our singers, our DJs before it’s too late #letthemusicplay' (sic)

Medina music also posted a strong message, telling fans, 'letthemusicplay 👾 2 different reasons 1 thing in common. MUSIC

'The entire music industry needs urgent support from the Governments to ensure its survival, music is with us everyday in every moment of our life we can't live without it and without all the ppl behind this scene.

'When we try to synch with others musically, keeping the beat or harmonizing, we tend to feel positive social feelings towards those with whome we're synchronizing, even if that person is not visible to us or not in the same room.

'When you want people to bond, music is a natural resource for making that happen. Whether at concerts, social events, live shows, clubs shows, music can help us connect, cooperate, and care for each other. This suggests that, if we want to have a more harmonious society, we would do well to continue to include music and live music in our lives.' (sic)

Solardo wrote on Twiiter, 'Live music is the lifeblood of the global entertainment industry and it’s currently facing a crisis. Other countries have pledged specific financial support but so far, the U.K. government hasn’t. Please support by sharing a photo of the last gig you attended and #letthemusicplay'. (sic)

This campaign was also supported by Emily Eavis, co-organiser of the annual Glastonbury Festival, who said, 'Today, we are joining with promoters, artists, festival goers and music lovers to call on the UK government to offer support to the live industry, which is frankly on its knees and faces being wiped out. #LetTheMusicPlay'.
