Lady Gaga performed a tribute to 'The Sound Of Music'

The 87th Oscars took place in Hollywood last night (23rd February) celebrating the biggest stars in the film industry, and was home to a star-studded list of performances.

Among the stellar names that hit the stage to entertain the winners and nominees, were Rita Ora, Maroon 5, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

However it was Lady Gaga who stole the show with a special medley of songs taken from ‘The Sound Of Music’.

Her performance coincided with the 50th anniversary of the famous musical, which was first released in 1965.

Backed by a choir and a string section, Gaga performed four songs including ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘Edelweiss’ and ‘My Favourite Things’.

Other stand-out performances included rapper Common and John Legend’s collaboration ‘Glory’, which won ‘Best Song’ on the night for civil rights movie 'Selma'.

Jennifer Hudson also wowed the celebrity-filled audience with a soulful performance of ‘I Can’t Let Go’, in remembrance of actors and actresses that passed away in 2014.

‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and ‘Birdman’ were the biggest winners on the night taking home a total of eight awards between them.

Eddie Redmayne won the ‘Best Actor’ award for his portrayal of a young Steven Hawking in ‘The Theory Of Everything’, beating ‘Birdman’ actor Michael Keaton, while Julianne Moore was named 'Best Actress' for her performance as a woman battling Alzheimer’s disease in ‘Still Alice’.
