Man arrested following suspected firearms incident in Birkenhead

A 22-year-old man was apprehended by officers following the incident

Merseyside Police have confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with a firearms incident in Birkenhead that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 16th).

Officers first received reports at about 2:10a.m. that a man had entered a bar on Conway Street with a crowbar. He then began threatening staff and customers with the weapon.

Following the altercation, he left the bar and got into a blue Jaguar car before driving away from the property.

Responders were able to track down the car to a property on Alexandra Road, where the man still was.

Officers tracked the man down to a property on Alexandra Road in the west of Birkenhead.

When officers came to speak to the man, he continued to make continued threats towards the force with a suspected firearm.

After surrounding the property for some time, armed officers closed off the area and moved in to arrest the man.

Emergency services were able to make their way into the property and arrest the 22-year-old man.

The force arrested the man, who is from Birkenhead on suspicion of possession of a suspected firearm, criminal damage and affray.

Following the incident, Alexandra Road and the adjacent Grange Mount have now been reopened by police.

Merseryside Police thanked the public for their co-operation in the investigation and the incident, reassuring that things have now returned to normal.
