TERMS AND CONDITIONS for “Magic and Samsung Westfield Quiz” (the “Competition”).

These terms and conditions (the “Specific Terms”) for the Competition should be read alongside our general competition terms and conditions at: http://www.bauerlegal.co.uk/radio-competition-terms.html (the “General Terms”) which will also apply to this Competition. Where there is any conflict between these Specific Terms and the General Terms, the Specific Terms shall prevail.

1.ENTRY ROUTES AND COSTS

Entries are restricted to one entry per person.

Entry to the Competition is available only on Friday 9th February at Westfield London, White City Ariel Way, London W12 7GF

The entry will be via random selection. Prior to the quiz Magic promotional staff will have encouraged shoppers to form a pool of people from which the contestants for the quiz will be sourced.

2.COMPETITION MECHANIC AND HOW TO WIN

The mechanic for this game will be ‘winner stays on’. Via a series of questions and challenges we will work through contestants until we finish up on our runners up and ultimate winner. The instructions for the quiz will be provided by the presenters as the activity rolls out.

Starting the Game: To source contestants, we’ll play a short 5-second clip of a song usually played on Magic, and ask the audience to raise their hand if they can name the artist. We will pick contestants to answer at random, and if they get it correct, they’ll be called to the stage to play. To find the second player we will then repeat the process by playing a second clip and going through the same process.

Round one: ‘Tech Timeline’.

We’ll describe 3 bits of Technology being launched (a mock-up of a news report) (for example a digital calculator radio , and a smart speaker and ask players to put them in order of when they were released. For example, the order would be radio (1895), digital calculator (1961), Smart Speaker (2015). The years don’t matter, just the order!

The player picked out first from the crowd will go first, then player 2 will have to give another order. Whoever gets it right, will move on to round 2. If both players give the same order, there will be a tie-breaker question requiring the players to guess the year in which a piece of technology was released. The player whose guess is closest to the correct year would win and progress.

If both players get the order wrong, there will be a tie-breaker question requiring the players to the year in which a piece of technology was released. Both players would give their answers, with player 2 going first this time and the person closest to the answer would progress.

We would then select another player from the audience using the same process as detailed in the section ‘Starting the Game’.

Round two: ‘Beat The Outro’

A Twist on the pub quiz classic, beat the intro! We’d (separately) play the last 5 seconds of 5 songs that we’d usually play on Magic - for example:

80s: Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac

90s: Genie in a Bottle – Christina Aguilera

00s: Viva La Vida – Cold Play

10s: Hello – Adele

Now: Anti Hero – Taylor Swift

Each correct guess as to the song title and artist is worth one point. As it’s a 5-song set up, the first contestant to score 3 points will win. Contestants will use their names as buzzers – so they’d have to shout their names out before answering and give both song and artist. The loser would return to the audience while the winner stays on. If we get a dead heat we will go to a ‘sudden death round’ first person to buzz correct answer wins. If someone buzzes in and gets it wrong other player automatically wins.

We would then select a new player using the same processes as before.

Round Three:

For Round three, we’d play a game of Magic’s Mystery Sound – Or Magic’s Mystery Voice. This involves us playing a short 2 second audio clip, of either a Mystery Sound (e.g. A car being put into gear) or a Mystery Voice (e.g. Benedict Cumberbatch saying ‘hello’). The winning player from the last round will be player one and guess first. If they’re incorrect, the newly selected player, player two, will then guess.

In this round BOTH players could return to the audience. They will have 3 guesses each and if after their 3 guesses they don’t get it right they’ll be sent back to the audience. The chance to guess will ping-pong between the players as so:

Player 1 guesses

If incorrect Player 2 guesses

If incorrect Player 1 guesses again

If Incorrect Player 2 guesses again

If incorrect Player 1 guesses again

If incorrect Player 1 is out and player 2 has 1 final guess

If still incorrect player 2 is also out.

On completion of the round, we’ll either have 1 player ready to go into the final round or we will need to select two new players for Round Four. Whether we’re picking out 1 or 2 players, we’ll use the same method as we did in the opening round.

Round Four: Our final round will be a ‘closest to the pin’. For example: “Earlier in the Beat The Outro Round you heard a song by Taylor Swift, but in which year was she born?” If a player won the previous round they will be ‘player one’ and be able to guess first, if not the first player selected from the audience will be able to guess first.

The winner will be the player closest to the answer. If they give answers equal distance from the answer, 1989, we’ll ask a tie-breaker question.
