WATCH: Donnie Darko to be re-released later this year

The cult classic Donnie Darko will be re-released later this year to celebrate 15 years since it was first released.

The original theatrical version of the film will be re-released nationwide on 23 December, along with a director's cut of the film which will also be available for screenings.

Donnie Darko is the story of Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is an troubled teenager. He is prone to sleepwalking, and finds it difficult to get on with his family and others in his class.

However, he goes on to meet Gretchen who becomes his girlfriend. He also has an imaginary friend, a six-foot rabbit named Frank who tells him the world is going to end in 28 days 06 hours 42 minutes and 12 seconds.

The film stars both Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal before they rose to stardom along with Patrick Swayze and Drew Barrymore.
