Celebrating Black excellence on Magic Radio
To celebrate Black History Month

All this month, Magic Radio will be highlighting black excellence and history in the world of music. From rock and reggae, R&B and soul, funk and jazz, disco and house, pop and hip-hop.
Almost all forms of popular music are of black origin and every day this month we will be shining a spotlight on the influence and successes of black artists. Tune in Monday to Friday to Magic Breakfast with Ronan & Harriet, in the 7pm hour with Richard Allison and seven days a week at 2pm with Emma B, Simon Phillips, and Jim Davis.
Magic Radio
We will be interviewing people of colour from music and entertainment to hear about their experiences. for example, June Sarpong on Magic Breakfast.
Special music programme on the main station hosted by Lemar, to launch the music genre series.
Magic Soul
This Black History Month on Magic Soul every Sunday at 7pm we’ll have a special episode of Soul Stories where we’ll look at the genres that have inspired and been inspired by Soul music.
Four one-hour specials looking at the genres that have inspired and been inspired by Soul music. From Gospel, to Funk, to R&B.
4th October – Lemar presents a look at the genre that started it all Gospel, with music from Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and Mahalia Jackson.
11th October – Des Paul has an hour of songs and stories from the genre that
18th October – Des Paul hosts an hour where we delve into a quintessential British Genre, BritFunk, and the evolution out of the JazzFunk club scene into a musical genre that’s impact is still felt today.
25th October – Simon Phillips and Lemar discuss contemporary R&B, from its roots in Disco to its impact and importance.
