The Queen officially opened the new Elephant Centre at Whipsnade Zoo.

The Queen, accompanied by her husband The Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened the new Centre for Elephant Care at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire.

And much to her husband's amusement, she fed one of the elephants a banana to mark the occasion!

The Royal Family posted a photo on Instagram of the Queen, Patron of the Zoological Society of London, handing the elephant a banana with the Duke of Edinburgh.

Good on Her Majesty for getting stuck in!

During her royal visit to Whipsnade Zoo, The Queen met nine Asian elephants, including her namesake, Elizabeth the Elephant, who was named in her honour to celebrate her 90th birthday in 2016.

They also met members of the elephant team and watched them carry out daily care tasks, including nail filing mouth care.

The Queen is the Patron of The Zoological Society of London, which manages Whipsnade Zoo, and is involved in several conservation efforts to protect elephants.
