He's the Army hero that stole the hearts of the nation by raising nearly £30 million for the NHS, by walking 100 laps of his garden ahead of his 100th birthday, and now Captain Tom Moore has a special message for us all!

Captain Tom, who has been sent over 125,000 birthday cards by strangers, has released a poignant message to the public on the eve of his 100th birthday, urging people to 'stay at home'.

The nation's hero said, “It is quite extraordinary that I am turning 100. It is even more extraordinary that I am doing so with this many well-wishers and I am in awe at the response my walking has had.

"To everyone who has donated, sent birthday cards and messages, sincerely thank you.

"Please stay home, stay safe. Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day."

Just like the rest of the nation, Captain Tom has been unable to see his family during these testing times, and therefore won't be able to celebrate his 100th birthday the way he would like.

However, the World War II veteran will be spending it with his daughter Hannah and her family, who he has been self-isolating with over the last few weeks. Captain's Tom's other daughter Lucy, and her family will join in the celebrations via Skype.

After finishing his 100 laps and raising nearly £30 million for the NHS, ITV commissioned a special documentary about his life, which is set to air on VE Day on Friday 8th May.

The special episode, titled Captain Tom's War, will document his story of his part in World War II, and show Tom looking back on his time during the war in the brutal Burma campaign, as a million Allied troops from 40 nations attempted to repel the invading forces of Imperial Japan from the British colony over almost three years, between 1941 and 1944.

Happy Birthday, Captain Tom! ❤️
