Lord Alan Sugar has slammed Katie Hopkins after she took to Twitter to denounce those who had paid tribute to Cilla Black after her death aged 72.

The outspoken and controversial 'The Apprentice' and 'Celebrity Big Brother' contestant had tweeted:

Sugar, having tweeted his own condolences earlier in the day, took to the social media site and retweeted the message adding "Why don't you shut up you idiot!"

Apparently not phased by the comment, Hopkins responded calmly:

However Sugar wasn't about to leave it there and called her out on the controversy that she likes to cause, stating this was simply "too far".

The final tweet in the exchange came from Hopkins who seemed to defend her comments, and belief that Twitter is not the platform in which to show respect for someone who has passed away.

Cilla Black died at her Spanish home in Estepona on the Costa del Sol. She was 72 and it is believed she is likely to have died of natural causes.
