Coronation Street fans in tears as Shayne Ward turns up to Cath Tyldesley's last day

Their characters were in a relationship on the soap

Coronation Street fans were left absolutely gobsmacked and utterly devastated when Shayne Ward's character, Aidan Connor, committed suicide in one of last month's episodes. Viewers of the show had not seen it coming at all - and the shocking storyline has been praised by many for highlighting the reality of male depression and suicide.

Now, Shayne's on-screen partner Catherine Tyldesley has revealed that she's filmed her last scenes on the soap after seven years playing Eva Price.

Posting a photo of her leaving presents from her Corrie castmates in an Instagram Story, Cath also revealed that her on-screen lover had surprised her on her last day on the set.

Sharing a sweet snap of herself and Shayne together, Cath wrote, 'Best surprise ever! This spoon turns up to surprise me! Missed you spud!'

But this proved to be too emotional for many fans of the soap, who took to the comments section on Instagram to reveal that they'd been left in tears by the photo.

One wrote, 'I'm crying' as another commented, 'I'm crying right now,' as many others simply used the crying emoji to reveal their feelings.

Others praised the actors, writing that they would miss the pair. One posted, 'Love you both just wish you left the street together with your baby,' whilst another added, 'Aww you'll both be missed very much.'
