Did you know? Statistically speaking, life single is more expensive than being coupled up.

Combine bills with hotel rooms for one and your gym memberships, new clothes, shoes, haircuts, to keep you tip-top and ready to date… it’s pretty expensive. That’s before you’ve been anywhere.

Well, that’s where we come in. Here are our favourite date ideas for spring (it'll be here soon we promise) that won’t cost anything at all, or are pretty cheap and still lots of fun...

A picnic… a blanket, picnic and a stunning view (perhaps combined with number 3 on our list) and you have the perfect date. Ok the food isn’t free, but choose carefully and with a bit of imagination it could be amazing. Play it safe with sandwiches or go adventurous with a camping stove? Add French bread and some fizz for the wow factor.

By selecting lots of little things to enjoy, you’re showing you’ve thought about what your date will and maybe won’t like, as well as confidence and originality. Tick, tick, tick!

A hobby... share. Perhaps you included your favourite hobby on your profile and your date mentioned they’d like to try it or seemed interested – why not share your passion? Or try something new together for the first time – you can chat about the activity and laugh over your experience.

A walk… in the countryside, along the beach, or somewhere new. We recommend you do your research: if your date isn’t into the outdoors or isn’t quite as fit as you, best avoid dragging them up a mountain. But a well-chosen route will get you both chatting, while taking in the views and the fresh air. Take along a picnic or suggest a well-earned coffee or beer to continue the fun.

Something different… there are always those dates where you had no idea what to expect. It's exciting if your date deviates from the usual coffee, meal or cinema. Try a fun fair, outdoor cinema, the sea side, or going to watch an event or a band you like? A good tip is to take a look reviews of things to do in your local area for more inspiration.
