Police looking for missing Dominic Jackson have recovered a body

A body has been found in the search for missing Aberdeenshire kayaker Dominic Jackson.

The 35-year-old went missing at the weekend after paddling the North East coastline from Portsoy in Moray.

Specialist teams and volunteers have been scouring the sea and shore from Buckie to Fraserburgh until Dominic's kayak was discovered at Lybster in Caithness on Monday.

He was reported missing on Sunday night, and since then up to 30-volunteers have also been involved in searches which have been at sea, on land, and from the air.

This afternoon police have confirmed a man's body was recovered earlier today.

Formal Identification is yet to take place - but Dominic's family has been told.

Police Scotland's Inspector Kevin Goldie told MFR News: "I can confirm that a body was discovered in the water near Lybster at around midday today during air searches by the Police Scotland helicopter.

"Wick lifeboat was also launched to assist."

Dominic's sister Ellie, who lives in Australia, posted on Facebook earlier: "We are absolutely devastated yet very thankful that we have found Dom and are able to bring him home.

"We have taken such strength from this international community of people who have come together at such a difficult time for Dom’s family and friends and all those who knew him.

"Our heartfelt thanks must go out to all the people on the ground that worked tirelessly together to look for my brother."
