German police have searched Hamburg's harbour after an Inverness man vanished in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It's been three days since Liam Colgan disappeared during a stag do he'd planned for a group of 18-people.

David Haddow was in the European city with his 29-year-old friend who's due to be Best Man at his brother's wedding in three weeks' time. He told MFR News: "It just wasn't like him. There was just no word from him at all. It was at that point we started to involve the local police. We had to wait a full day from the time we reported it before they could launch an official investigation.

"When knew his battery had died in his phone earlier on, in the night, so he didn't have a phone with him.

"We had no way to reach him. Later in the morning we just knew something was wrong.

"Your mind wonders of course to some pretty dark places, but we have no reason at this point to suspect anything in particular.

Mr Haddow and the rest of the party tried tracing Liam's steps by speaking to bar staff at the last place they were all together: "The employees there had said they remembered us coming in as a group, and that Liam was there, and that he had left on his own just a little bit before we had left the bar, and that was the last time that he was seen."

A Facebook page called Help find Liam Colgan has been created with appeals in English and German.

It says: 'Liam, is the best man for his brother Eamonn Colgan and is responsible for organising the Stag Do to Hamburg, Germany.

'Eamonn is due to marry his fiance Susan in three weeks time back in Scotland so we are launching an urgent appeal to find Liam.'

Mr Colgan is around 6ft with a slim build and ginger hair.

When last seen, he was wearing a brown leather jacket and a grey hoodie.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We are in contact with the German police after a British man was reported missing in Hamburg, Germany.

"We are providing advice and assistance to his family.
