LISTEN: Merry mystery over Caithness candy canes

Anonymous Christmas gifts put on car windscreens in Thurso

Published 13th Dec 2016

Christmas gifts have been given out early in Caithness, after dozens of candy canes were left on car windscreens.

They were left with messages reading: 'This cane was left with festive cheer, wishing you and yours, love and kindness at Christmas time xxxx.'

Graeme Gunn from the Mount Vernon area of Thurso told MFR News: "There are quite a few houses in my area, and as far as I know, pretty much all of the cars have had one on their windscreen.

"I was heading into town and I put the wipers on, and I heard something scrape along the window - turns out it was one of these candy canes."

The 41-year-old has put his candy cane on his Christmas tree at home, and says the festive gesture has been well received by his neighbours: "Everyone who's received one has had a smile on their face.

"Whoever's done it - they haven't done it for recognition. They've just decided it's a nice thing to do.

"At first I had a rough idea who it was, and it turns out I was wrong.

"So the plot thickens. We still don't know who sent them out."
