Detectives will question 15 people as a fresh police inquiry continues to probe a historic Highland harbour death which remains unexplained 21-years-on.

The people, who will be interviewed in Wick and Inverness, are being treated as 'potential witnesses' by Major Crime investigators.

A fresh inquiry into the 24-year-old's unsolved drowning was launched back in January after an MFR News investigation revealed a new witness claims he saw the final moments of Kevin's life.

The man from Wick, who suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other mental health issues told us: "I was walking home and I decided to walk on a little hill above the actual harbour, when I heard a commotion, voices, and scuffling, or whatever, and then a splash, and I went to investigate.

"I saw the two people and Kevin in the water - I believe he kind of went under the water, and I must have made a noise, cause of the two looked round, and one gave chase.

"I took off basically, which is not exactly the admirable thing to do, but I thought that because they'd seen me, they would have saved him, but they didn't. They just let him drown."

Mum June has never come to terms with the 1997 tragedy, and how her son suffered massive abdominal injuries and drowned remains a mystery, because Northern Constabulary failed to investigate the potential murder: "He's gone and I've no answers yet, but hopefully I will.

"It's not easy living without him. Everybody loses their parents and grandparents, but it's a different death when you lose a child."

The legacy force had been told to by the Procurator Fiscal at the time, now Kevin's dad Hugh is relying on the fresh police inquiry which started more than 3-months-ago.

He said: "Now that the homicide department has become involved we hope that they'll do the job that Northern Constabulary, the legacy force, never did. Who know what it could lead to?"

Earlier MFR News broke the news that a further 15-people will be questioned as 'potential witnesses' as investigators from Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division continue their probe.
