Specialist pod essential to care for North Kessock kid with life-limiting genetic condition
Presented with the prospect of moving home, the Mum of a six-year-old North Kessock boy with an incurable genetic disorder is aiming to raise £60,000 to keep her son Reece next to friends, family and the right level of care required to help him handle the impact of a life-limiting condition, Battens Disease.
Donna Mitchell aims to #RaiseTheRoofForReece in having a pod situated in the garden of their home, rather than uproot to a larger home more suitable for his care.
Within the last year he has gone from being a fun loving little boy, to losing the ability to walk, talk, and his eyesight.
Reece's form of Battens Disease has comes with Dementia and for his family it is about making sure his short life is as comfortable as possible.
At present the council house cannot be adapted for Reece's complex needs, which is why the option of the pod is ideal to prevent them being uprooted.
The family are looking for help to purchase a special adapted pod to provide all the care Reece needs in the comfort of his own home.
'It will be purpose-built to provide palliative care for Reece, whose condition is deteriorating, but it will adapt and change with his needs', said Mum Donna.
Having the pod will allow Reece to stay in his home surrounded by family and friends giving him the best quality of life possible.
'It will be a bedroom / living area and bathroom, so at least Reece will have the dignity and respect without us having to move. We would've had to move to Dingwall which is another 11 miles away, and I don't drive', added Donna.
But this pod would not just be for Reece. Donna has already said that she would like this pod to be passed on to another child with complex needs when Reece no longer requires it.
