Teen saved from on-coming tide near castle cliffs in Caithness

The 14-year-old was airlifted to hospital around 7.15pm on Monday night

A 14-year-old boy remains in a serious condition in hospital following an incident at Sinclair Castle near Wick.

Around 5pm on Monday night emergency services were alerted to someone who had got himself into difficulties and was trapped by the incoming tide.

Coastguard teams on sea and by air, along with Police and ambulance, airlifted the boy where he was then taken to Aberdeen Royal infirmary where his injuries were described as "not life-threatening, but serious"

The rescue units involved included Wick RNLI, and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Wick, Aberdeen, Duncansby, Melvich and Scrabster, along with helicopter from Shetland.

A full investigation into the incident is now underway.
